MAILBAG
HEARTS FOR HORSES
Tom Reed made me cry with his story in the April
issue. Thank you for that lovely take. My four white
horses, of which there is only one left now, are in my
memory much like your old Marvin. They are a part
of our souls.

GOOD MAY ISSUE
The May 2024 issue is a good one, highlighted
by the emphasis on getting children involved in the
outdoors. The bobkittens - hello former Thermopolis
Middle School mascot - photo is really great by
Tim Christie. Your magazine keeps me in touch with
Wyoming, having lived there 22 years.
A question about the group photo on page 13. Was
it posed, or an action shot? I see no hearing protection
like muffs being used. Maybe they have ear plugs. And
standing so close together, isn't there a danger of being
hit by a hot ejected shell? Teach children safety first.
HITTING HOME
I enjoyed Tom Reed's, " The Starter Horse, " article
in the April 2024 issue where he advised, " ... don't fall
in love with a horse ... " It brought to mind a quip
from my late uncle Ray Holmes, who spent his life
as a cowboy on Wyoming and Montana ranches and
was featured in the 1981 Odyssey series documentary,
" On the Cowboy Trail. "
" I've had horses I liked a lot. But I never got attached
to them like they show in the movies. If somebody
came along and thought my horse was worth more
than I did, well, I'd just let him own it. "

a personal flotation device and his mother not wearing
one. Maybe they were at the dock. Let's be good role
models for the kids.
