Bird's-eye view Photo: by Troy Powell Gear: Nikon Z9 Settings: 1/2500 sec, f/6.3, ISO 2800 C overed ditch banks and an adjacent grain field close to home are go-to places for northern harriers. On a late afternoon I hid out in an old weather-worn shed and waited. As the fading light settled over the area, this female northern harrier came looking for a meal. I was hidden and undetected as she swooped in close looking for a rodent in the deep grass. Seeing her pattern a few days prior allowed me to have a good opportunity to capture her on the hunt. Getting in the right location and being unseen is a big part of my bird photography. Letting the subject and light come to you produces some incredible images and encounters. Another technique often overlooked is being adaptable to each location and situation. In my experience the more invisible you are the better the opportunities. Wyoming Wildlife | 7
