USE THOSE SPINNERS
Regarding Robert Gagliardi's column on the
rare spinner in March's Wyoming Wildlife, just use
the darned things. If you haven't lost a lure, fly or
worm you haven't fished the right spots.

BRINGS BACK MEMORIES
Robert Gagliardi's " Back to some old-school
ways " column in the March issue brought back
some memories of learning to spinner fish during
my high school years.
My best friend, who passed away a few months
ago, was an avid angler all his life. He taught me
how to fish with spinners. His favorites were Panther
Martin's or Mepps, and we would start with
gold-colored ones if we had them. We fished most
of the creeks and lakes in the Bighorn Mountains.
I still fish that way when I get to the Bighorns.
We had some good times and caught a lot of fish.
I miss him.

FISHING THE NORTH PLATTE
The article " Nuances of the North Platte " in the
March issue brought back many good memories.
Living in Rawlins from 1979-87 I could drive 20
miles and be at that world-class, blue-ribbon fishery.
HUNTING HARVEST

I would drive east to the Interstate-80 bridge, head
south and fish at many access points. I wouldn't
fish where I could see or be seen by another angler.
Solitude was as important as wetting my line. I
doubt that there are many world-class waters that
can boast of that experience so near to civilization.
I remember one time when I parked, rigged up,
then saw another angler. I loaded up and drove
farther until we were both alone.
Living in North Carolina now, I can only dream
of repeating those experiences. Consider yourself
lucky if you live or fish in Wyoming.

MULE DEER CONCERNS
I first hunted in Wyoming out of high school in
the early 1960s. As a now 80-year-old, last year's
hunt was regrettable. Wyoming mule deer herds
are in serious decline. Wyoming Game and Fish
Department Director Brian Nesvik mentions this
in the March issue of Wyoming Wildlife.
There are too many hunters, at least in the area
I hunt, and the taking of four-pointers only was
a disaster. Too many bucks of three points or less
were left to ruin after being shot, maybe by mistake.
Close the season if you want the herds to come back.
Don't subsidize your deer for license fees.
