COUPLE OF ISSUES
Dave Zoby's interesting article in the July edition
had a couple of claims I take issue with.
While catching cutthroat trout in the Upper
Green is, as always, a joy, I would say the prize that
brings the summer crowds - as Zoby wrote - are
its rainbow and brown trout. There is some excellent
cutthroat trout fishing in some of the Green River's
tributaries, but the stretch covered in the article is
not a major cutthroat fishery.
Secondly, cutthroat trout are spring spawners,
not fall spawners.

Thank you for the letter, and you are correct about cutthroat
being spring spawners. All four native cutthroat
subspecies in Wyoming spawn in the spring. ~R.G.
GREAT BACKPACKING ARTICLE
I have only backpacked once in my 85 years,
and that was probably 15 years ago. However, after
reading Lisa Ballard's article in the August issue I
had to tell you how much I enjoyed it and how
useful and practical it would be to anyone who
backpacks - even for some seasoned backpackers.
I wish it could be available to anyone considering
a backpacking trip - in Wyoming, of course, but
actually, anywhere.
This was an outstanding piece of work, and it's
wonderful you published it in your fine magazine.
I always enjoy Wyoming Wildlife, but I had to comment
on this special article.

MORE WACKY RACKS
After reading the " Wacky Racks " story in August's
magazine I thought I would share this photo of a
buck I spotted near Meeteetse in the fall of 2019.
Note that the left antler is growing out of the side of
the head with no growth on top of the head where
the left pedicle should be. Also note the cleavage
separating the nostrils, indicating genetics is the
most probable cause.
I'm curious to see how this burdensome oddity
evolves in future years.
