membership on the Civil Engineering Visiting Committee at the University of Texas/ Austin and the Friends of Engineering and Applied Science at Harvard University. Bob has also given his time over the years to engineering and professional societies, and has received awards for service and leadership from them. He continued to support the activities of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1986 and Patriot Award in 1998. Bob was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1991, and a Past President of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

In Retirement, the Service Continues
While Bob retired in 1997, and officially left CDM Smith in 2001, he continues to consult and engage in the type of relationship building that is synonymous with his name. He continues to serve on the board at Northeastern University, and is the

Chairman of his Condo Group where he maintains his retirement home in Florida. At that location, he also serves on the Gasparilla Island Water Association, where his contributions related to water and sewage issues are held in highest regard. Bob now enjoys his days with his wife Anne, his children and grandchildren. He leaves a legacy that includes being instrumental in CDM Smith growing from a regional consulting operation to what it is today: a global firm delivering expertise and services in the broad spectrum of environmental engineering, including water, transportation, energy, and facilities. In looking back at his career and life, Bob reflected, “As much as I enjoyed the work, and it was my passion, it was always about the people; about the relationships I was blessed to have and be a part of.” Of all his unending achievements, Bob Marini was most successful in leaving that impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path.
