2013 Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science Competition (E3)
Promoting innovative, cutting-edge, sustainable projects to agencies and other potential clients is part of the Academy’s mission to protect the environment and public health. If you have projects the world should know about, consult your marketing team, and begin planning your entries now - because obtaining permissions from various departments takes time. The deadline for entries is February 1, 2013. The submission process is entirely electronic. New technical language in the Eligibility section reflects science topics including, but not limited to, Residuals and Biosolids; Odors and Air Pollution Control; Nutrients; Renewable Energy; Microconstituents/Trace Organics; and Field & Lab Instrumentation. Environmental Communications Award Competition

Effectively communicating complex and challenging environmental engineering issues to the public and other stakeholders saves significant time and money. AAEE invites your organization to submit case studies of your best communication efforts that were carried out in the past two years. Entries will be judged by communications experts at consulting firms and agencies. The winners will be announced at the Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science Awards Luncheon and Conference April 25th at the National Press Club, Washington, DC. The winners will also qualify to enter the IWA’s International competition in the North American section. For details, and to enter, email jsolmo@aaee.net.

2012 Annual Meeting

The 2012 Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Ayres Hotel & Suites in Orange County, California on November 9-10, 2012. The meeting included six guest members: Stephen P. Graef, Deputy Treasurer; Robert Schoenberger, SWANA, TrusteeElect; Jeanette Brown, WEF Trustee-Elect; Michael Kavanaugh, Trustee-at Large-Elect; James Patterson, Trustee-at-Large-Elect; and Steve Kadivar. Several members of the BOT rounded out the 75 attendees who attended the Regional AAEE Networking Dinner at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project on Friday, featuring a presentation by SCCWRP Executive Director Steve Weisberg titled: Global Ocean Concerns and Southern California’s Coastal Water Quality. The International Honorary Member Award, Student Team Award, new AAEES logo, and new Officers and Trustees were approved. Here are additional highlights of the meeting: New Board Certified Individuals Eighty-one new BCEEs; four new BCEEMs; four new BCESs; one Reinstatement; and four BCEEs who earned second specialties were approved. We wish to thank all of those members who take the time to recruit new applicants. Word of mouth and personal encouragement are key for recruiting new members.
