love to a village of people with leprosy. Most were no longer contagious yet remain completely isolated from society. Up near the Tibetan border, we held a health care conference for more than 260 nursing and medical students. It was their first-ever international conference and they were extremely enthusiastic! There have been 17 mission trips over the years. And yes, Africa and India are among them. In Ethiopia we worked in rural villages, a small community hospital and in the capital with those who are HIV-positive. In India in 2010, our clinical team crisscrossed the country into some villages where no health care team had ever been.

New Video Series on Hearing Assistive Technology
Did you know there is help for hearing loss beyond hearing aids and cochlear implants? The Hearing Loss Association of America and Knowlera Media have teamed up once again to produce a series of captioned three-minute videos introducing people to hearing assistive technology.  While you may view the videos on www.hearingloss.org, they are distributed through Knowlera Media on their MonkeySee.com website as well as a network of more than 800 other sites. Our goal is to give people who might not know about assistive technology some basic information so they can explore options to help them hear better. Learn more yourself or pass the link along to someone who might benefit from an overview of hearing assistive technology. By the way, our first video series, Learn About Hearing Loss, has been viewed 2.6 million times on the Knowlera network since May 2010. These are a great resource for people who want to learn the basics about hearing loss.

Love of HLAA I have been an HLAA member for nine years now. I love it. I love the many friends I have made, the support, the advocacy, the training and leadership, the fun and excitement of the national conventions. I’ve served as an officer and am currently co-president of the Peninsula Chapter. Having worked on three Walk4Hearing events in California has been fun and rewarding. My concern for others with hearing loss has intertwined with my love of missions and I am so grateful for both.
