High-Risk Areas
Where counterfeiting is occurring

in economically weak countries and
regions with limited legal protection
levels for international brand owners
and with a high presence of corruption. Inside a country, the number of
counterfeits usually is higher outside
of the big cities, in areas where the
level of information, education and
financial power is lower, he explained.

said the African market has a big
percentage of counterfeits.
Musiol breaks counterfeits down
into two categories: copies made to
look like the dominant brand, and
manipulations, which are refills. " Copies can be mainly found in markets
like Russia, India and China, where
production skills are high, but legal
protection is lower, while manipulations mainly occur in Southeast Asia,
Africa and Latin America, where
salaries are low and level of poorness
is high, " he said. " Places like the
European Union, North America and
Australia are affected very little. "
