Julia (Michael) LoPinto of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and
Rebecca Ross of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania; stepdaughter

of Lake Monticello, Virginia; and nephews Daniel (Danielle) Nasser and Ryan Nasser, and niece Emma LoPinto.
Laura received her bachelor's degree from Purdue University and her MBA from Syracuse University. She was an avid
international traveler before and after her retirement from
INEOS after 30 years of service. She engaged in myriad
activities that always had her surrounded by friends and
family. Her family intends to hold a memorial service in
the late spring or summer, to ensure a safer opportunity for
everyone to gather.

service she gave to the lubricants business; that work gave
her great joy.Paula was regarded as one of the world's experts
in the areas of environmental products and governance,
especially biodegradable and nontoxic lubes. Paula served as
Novvi's key representative to ILMA. She was also an active
member of the Soceity of Tribologists and Lubrication
Engineers (STLE) and a former chair of STLE's Northern
California section. She gave many presentations at STLE
annual meetings, where she was also a course instructor.
Paula was a vice chair of two ASTM committees focused on
industrial and environmentally friendly lubricants, as well
a member of SAE and the American Chemical Society. Her
Ph.D. in chemistry was from University of Illinois, and her
bachelor's in chemistry was from Northwestern University.
To recognize her contribution to the lubricants industry
and to try to capture her spirit, Novvi is starting the Dr.
Paula Vettel Memorial Scholarship, under the auspices of
the STLE Presidential Council. A GoFundMe site, bit.
ly/314I0dF, has been established to allow all her friends and
colleagues to contribute to this scholarship. Her mentorship
of many scientists and her love of chemistry can be best
reflected by helping new young talent to join our industry.
