* The health and safety laws of other European countries
outside the EU, such as Norway and Switzerland, are in
accordance with EU H&S standards, and therefore it is likely
that EU law implemented directly as U.K. legislation will
remain in place.6

The Long Way Forward
One of the Britons with whom I spoke reminded me that
before Brexit there was "Grexit" (Greece's threat to leave the
EU), though, in spite of a long and protracted budgetary crisis,
Greece is still part of the EU. My daily monitoring of the British
Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) informs me that EU headquarters
in Brussels, in its effort to stem further exoduses, may exact a
heavy price from Great Britain in order to send a stern message
to other EU members who may be contemplating leaving the
fold.
When one considers the close relationships EU industries
have had and continue to share with U.S. industries and other
countries, hopefully, the shakeout of Brexit in years to come
will bode well for occupational H&S in the international realm.
