TO FAMILY OF... GEORGE W. (DICK)
RICHARDS III

George W. (Dick) Richards III

ILMA was saddened to learn of the
passing of George W. (Dick) Richards III of Oxford, Md., loving and
beloved husband of Bonnie, his wife
of 55 years, and a father, grandfather,
brother and uncle. Richards died on
Thursday, March 30, after a prolonged
medical battle.
Richards was deeply proud of his
three sons, George W. (Whit) Richards
IV, Los Angeles; David Forster Richards, Havertown, Pa.; and Andrew
(Drew) Ross Richards, Ambler, Pa. His
seven grandchildren, by whom he was
called "Cappy," were the lights of his

life, in order of age: Cameryn, Brenna,
Lily, Lukas, Graham, Nathan and Blake.
Never having had a daughter, Richards
especially enjoyed his three daughtersin-law, Kati, Janis and Andrea. He is
also survived by his two sisters, Deborah Deschamps of Annapolis, Md. and
Paula Tobin of Grasonville, Md.
Richards lived outside of Philadelphia during his working years while he
and Bonnie raised their family. Starting
out in sales, he advanced to president
of G. Whitfield Richards Co., a firm
that 20 ago became RichardsApex Inc.
The company is an ILMA member that
manufactures metalworking lubricants.
Richards was an avid outdoorsman, especially when it came to fishing, hunting
and boating. He loved to feed and watch
birds, as well as raise koi in his pond.
A gathering to celebrate Richards'
life was held on April 8. In memoriam

Community Center (Oxford, Md.),
Northlight Community Center (Philadelphia), and The Tred Avon Yacht
Club Junior Sailing Program (Oxford).

ILMA EXTENDS ITS CONDOLENCES
TO FAMILY OF... ALBERT J. (AL)
AMATUZIO
ILMA award winner, innovator of
synthetic lubrication and Amsoil
founder Al Amatuzio passed away on
Friday, March 31, at nearly 93 years

old. It was his time spent in the U.S.
military that sparked in him a great
idea to provide everyday consumers
with a version of the same synthetic oil
that his jets' engines needed to survive.
At the time, oil quality was poor and
engines did not last long. Then-modern
oils were susceptible to breakdown in
high heat and contributed greatly to
hard-starting in cold weather. Amatuzio had a vision to bring a better option
to market. Because of Amatuzio, consumers have improved choices from
big oil companies, their vehicles last
longer and advanced automotive technologies that would have destroyed
yesterday's motor oil are possible.
In 1994, Amatuzio was formally
recognized and honored as the pioneer
of synthetic lubrication with his
induction into the Lubricant's World
Hall of Fame. In 2005, he was again
honored with the Nachtman Award,
ILMA's highest honor, recognizing the
achievements of those who have made
unique and significant contributions
to the independent lubricant manufacturing industry.
