LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

The Future of the ILMA
Foundation

s someone who has spent his career in the lubricants industry, I am
passionate about all that it has to offer, and one of my goals is to
attract more people to the industry. I think we have a wonderful
opportunity to do so through the ILMA Foundation.
Today, the ILMA Foundation principally oversees the ILMA Scholarship
Program. Over the past 17 years, ILMA has awarded over $400,000 in
scholarships to 155 students, and I am pleased to share with you that the
Board has voted to increase awards for the scholarship program effective this
year. The awards will now go to $3,000 a year - $1,500 per semester -
from $2,000 a year, or $1,000 per semester. ILMA received 82 applications
for the most recent round of the scholarship program, showing the important role it plays.
I also believe we can do more to give back to the industry through the
Foundation, and we are increasing our focus on research. Gathering information and then sharing it with each other keeps us moving toward a future
that is full of promise. As an industry, we can collaborate with each other
and share ideas that spur the innovations that will take us into tomorrow.
Current topics we'd like to investigate are the economic impact of the
lubricants industry and, more importantly, what ILMA's proportional
contribution to it is. We also plan to research employment needs and which
manufacturing companies are involved in the industry. I'm also eager to
hear from ILMA members on what research they'd like to see.
To strengthen the Foundation's leadership, we are working on expanding
the Foundation Board by adding industry suppliers. Traditionally, the Board
has been made up of past presidents who have a wealth of knowledge, and
I believe the newest addition will give us more experience and insight to
draw from going forward, as well as help us understand what our important sponsors and contributors might be looking for or have to offer our
members. We truly are partners in the industry, and I am excited for the
opportunity to give them a greater voice.
I'd love to welcome all of you to get more involved with the Foundation,
whether it is through your financial support of the Foundation's programs,
the contribution of your time serving on the Board or through sharing your
insight for our research. ILMA's members have always been and will continue to be the driving force behind the organization, and together we can
pool our collective efforts, time and resources to generate significant returns
for our individual businesses and our industry as a whole.
