questions should then become: Who
has access to these various databases?
Who needs access to this database?
Who should be restricted from accessing this database?
Once leadership is in tune with
cybersecurity, employee awareness is
the next step. While technological
defenses ought to be the first line of
defense, people are perhaps the single
greatest defense against phishing scams
and other types of cyberattacks.
"Whether it's awareness training
or coaching, some form of attitude
adjustment becomes necessary," said
Leiter. "Make cybersecurity awareness
a priority with employees. I think it's
important to talk about cybersecurity
within your regularly scheduled staff
meetings. Work with employees to

remind them how to identify a scam
email ... always bring this to the front
of folks' minds."
Leiter also recommends "test-scamming" your staff to gauge cybersecurity
awareness, and perhaps even hiring
a third party to test your company's
network for vulnerabilities and perform cybersecurity awareness training
for employees. "These third-party
companies simulate phishing emails in
tests sent out to employees," he said.
"If someone opens it up, they receive
a response saying that they messed up
and to watch this training video that's
been prepared."

"Let's say you're in an office and the
last person who leaves is supposed to
lock the door, but they don't lock the

Labor Relations Board (NLRB) policy
when adding this information to your
employee handbook.

forth acceptable language for employee
manuals, so that employers won't run
afoul of the National Labor Relations Act
in terms of interfering with employees'
rights to organize or discuss the terms and
