Thank you to those who offered
thoughtful feedback. Your ideas
included ways to look beyond these
meetings and tap into our supplier
members who have resources on the
ground in different regions. Along
those lines, while we were at the
ALMU/F&L Asia meetings, ILMA
CEO Holly Alfano and I met with
Afton's managing director of the Asia
Pacific, Sean Spencer; Ergon's Asian
region director, Nils Herlenius; and
regional sales manager for Ergon, Rico
Lee. Not only did they each give a great
overview of the global reach of their
prospective companies, but we gained
knowledge of the specific markets of
interest in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Sometimes we must invest in things
before we know the value, and I think
we are in the early stages of investing
in our relationships with our global
counterparts. Much like the work
we do with lawmakers on Capitol
Hill, it is important to form connections before we need to ask for help
with a particular issue or share our
knowledge on how a regulation could
impact our business operations.
It may be difficult right now to
predict the dividends, but I know
our investments will undoubtedly
pay off in the not-so-distant future.
With global allies on your side, you go
further than going it alone.

Meeting, Sept. 21-24, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado,
where we will feature an international
forum with representatives from
companies from all over the world.
The group will discuss challenges and
cultural differences that we need to be
aware of when partnering with global
counterparts.

At approximately 36,000 feet (over 6.5 miles) deep in the Mariana Trench, Chinese and
Russian researchers and scientists from the University of East Anglia in England recently
discovered an "oil-eating bacteria." More specifically, what was found can be described
as a new group of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria.
