The anticipated time to deliver the new specification was 36 months for the first license date (Jan. 1, 2015) and 48 months for the mandatory use date (Jan. 1, 2016). So, the road map was well defined with the deliverables and timetable within normal industry expectations. With the path established, work began on the development of the ILSAC GF-6 performance category. The first issue identified was the significant effort required to design and deliver the many engine tests for the new performance category.
