E D U C AT I O N A L S E S S I O N S Technology Sponsored by Advanced Solutions International Online Strategies, Tools and Trade Secrets Over the past decade nonprofit organizations have been inundated with Internet services and technology options. This session, taught by Ted Hart, one of the world’s foremost experts on Nonprofits and the Internet, will focus nonprofit leadership on how they can improve the management, networking and fundraising of their organization through the use of these tools. Content is based on the new book Nonprofit Internet Management: Strategies, Tools and Trade Secrets. While nonprofit organizations continue to embrace the use of the Internet for a variety of purposes, the challenge organizations face is not whether they should be using the Internet, but instead HOW they should manage their Internet applications in a coordinated, cost-effective and efficient manner to leverage these efforts for maximum benefit. This session will help charities address increasing public demands for accountability and performance measurement of nonprofits. Ted Hart, ACFRE, Hart Philanthropic Services Group, Inc., Columbia, Md. Mid-level 3-6 years, Senior level 7-9 years, Advanced level 10+ years How Tweet It Is! Mastering Social Media for Fundraising Success With Web 2.0 technology evolving every day, nonprofits have an ever growing arsenal of opportunities to spread the word about their work and fundraise to support it. The question is how to best use it. For the seasoned executive charged with fundraising to the one man shop, this presents a number of challenges and choices. First and foremost, what is all this stuff? Busy executives and more senior leaders are likely to have had to assimilate an incredible amount of technology into their work and personal lives in the last two decades. While the demands of the marketplace have made iPhones, Blackberries and Treos ubiquitous for constant email and scheduling this does not mean that anyone brandishing these devices is a techie. A basic primer is needed to introduce people to the world of opportunity in what was only recently referred to as the World Wide Web and explain the transition we have made in the nonprofit community from the importance of just having a website to interactive tools like an active email campaign. Once made clear, an explanation of social networking (or Web 2.0) can be shared to the point where all nonprofits “need” to have a Facebook, MySpace, Twitter account and how they can effectively utilize them to build brand awareness and raise funds. Nicci Noble, CFRE, Noble Services LLC, San Francisco, Calif. Sean Sullivan, The Center for Environmental Health, Oakland, Calif. General Interest Fundraising in the Blogosphere Blogging is a wonderful way to spread the word about your cause and draw supporters into conversations with you. You’ll also find out which blogs you should probably be reading now to set yourself up for success and how to make it easy to follow them. Sandy Rees, CFRE, Sandy Rees Consulting, Loudon, Tenn. General Interest Everything You Need to Know About Measuring Online Results But Were Afraid to Ask What to count? How to count it? And how are other nonprofits doing? There are almost as many metrics for measuring online success as there are questions about the subject. This session will cover web, email, social media and multi-channel metrics and explain the whats, hows, and whys for measuring them successfully. The audience will understand the facts and fiction about online metrics, learn the right and wrong things to measure, and how to get more out of their metrics than ever before.
