SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION NYC Metro BIM Spreading the Word about BIM It all star ted w ith three big belie vers in BIM. And after a few months of exchanging emails and ideas, the NYC Metro BIM was formed in April 2008 b y H osney Abdelgelil, of Hill I nternational I nc.; Stephen Thomson, of Thomson Architects PC; and St eve J ones, of McGraw-Hill Construction. Since its inc eption, membership has grown from three to 300. The g roup was for med as an int erest group of the building SMAR T allianc e (bSa), which is a council of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). It is comprised of professionals fr om a w ide range of disciplines, including members of the c onstruction indust ry, academia, design field and media. It is the largest of six bSa-associated BIM g roups across the country. To ensure unit y throughout the industry with regard to BIM, NYC Metro BIM is planning t o align itself with other industry g roups, such as the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), US G reen B uilding C ouncil (USGBC), American Societ y of Professional Estimators (ASPE), Project Management Institute (PMI), Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International, Subcontractors T rade Association (STA) and others.
