A SPECIAL ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT TO NEW YORK CONSTRUCTION The project, located in the Bathgate section of the Bronx, consists of a 140,000-square-foot, two-story building hosting three distinct high schools of 500 students each. The site is on the border of an industrial park and a mixed residential and commercial area, and is expected to make a warm and welcoming contribution to an up-and-coming neighborhood. The ground " oor contains the three schools’ common spaces, including the student cafeteria; library; and exercise, art, music and multi-purpose rooms, all organized along a corridor. The three high schools are on the second " oor, with each one organized around an internal courtyard, which is naturally lit by a large skylight. The high school spaces include general classrooms, science lab and demonstration rooms, student activity rooms and administrative of" ces. BATTERY PARK CITY SCHOOL – MANHATTAN, NY One of the SCA’s most innovative projects – P.S. 276 – incorporates more sustainable building elements than any other school in the SCA’s history. An eight-story building located on the last remaining undeveloped site in Battery Park City, this 127,700-square-foot school will house over 950 pre-K through 8th grade students with an academic focus on educating students about green initiatives. The program includes 30 typical classrooms, nine special education classrooms, science rooms, an art studio, a music suite, a gymnasium and auxiliary gym, an auditorium, a library, a cafeteria and kitchen, administrative of" ces and other support spaces, and a 10,000-squarefoot play terrace located on the third " oor. Metropolitan Avenue Campus Mott Haven Campus The District 75 (special needs) component includes eight classrooms, two resource rooms, one occupational and physical therapy room, one daily living room, an administrative space and a nurse’s of" ce. Spaces shared by all occupants include a music suite, a 4,000-square-foot library, a 1,000-squarefoot staff development and literacy coaches’ room, a 450-square-foot student store, a 700-seat cafeteria and full kitchen, staff lunch room and a well equipped medical suite. BATHGATE – BRONX, NY Grillo explains that Bathgate was an old warehouse run by the Port Authority. The SCA entered into an agreement with the Port Authority under which the SCA will lease the property in order to build a school campus for 1,500 students. Upon expiration of the lease, the City will take title to the property. Where Battery Park City School shines is its use of sustainable elements, including 50-kilowatt solar paneling on the roof, a photovoltaic entry canopy, and a multi-purpose outdoor space with a green screen on the top " oor.
