SUBCONTRACTORS • Attend pre-bid conferences and openings to learn what trades will be part of the scope, and discuss with prime contractors how your quali" cations are a match for the project. • Use more than just a business card to sell yourself—develop simple marketing collateral to provide information regarding the history and quali" cations of your " rm. • Attend events offered by BDD and work closely with your CM if you are part of the Mentor Program. • Keep your SCA prequali" cation and MWLBE certi" cation status current. • Join subcontracting and MWLBE associations, and attend networking events to develop meaningful business relationships. he SCA is committed to attracting and ensuring the participation of MWLBE (minority-owned, woman-owned and local business enterprise) subcontractors in its projects. The Business Development Division (BDD) works hard to recruit and train these " rms, help them overcome the challenges associated with breaking into the construction industry, identify subcontracting opportunities and grow their business. To this end, the SCA contractually requires prime contractors to submit detailed subcontracting plans, and then works actively with them and subcontractors to meet or exceed the targeted level of MWLBE participation.
